colorful living roomI tell you, I love pale rooms where the mood is peaceful and clean as much as the next person – but there’s something about bold splashes of color melded with fun art, shape and eclecticism that gets me every time.

I spotted this really fun Maryland townhouse in Baltimore Style Magazine earlier and just had to post a link to it.  I adore the blue Egg Chair, the amazing colored glass bottles, the bright yellow walls in the foyer, and especially that amazing dining room set.  I wish – oh how I wish that I had the time, budget and nerve to pull something like this off for myself.  For now I’ll just have to enjoy the pictures. These are just a few images - to see and read more about this amazing home be sure to click over.

Ines de la Fressange

Have you checked out The Selby lately? I think it’s interesting how one photographer, much like The Sartorialist has done for fashion, is single-handedly changing the way interiors are photographed. There’s a gorgeous photo spread of model / muse Ines de la Fressange in her super chic (and pink) apartment that is just fabulous – here are a few pics but be sure to see the whole collection on The Selby.

Love this video about Tsunami Glassworks.  It was made awhile back when the company was first getting started but I adore designers Eva Milinkovic and Kriston Gene’s dedication to their art.

blue_jeans2

I love this look – it reminds me of a pair of favorite blue jeans that I’ve had for years – I’ve embroidered, embellished and worn them in until they really are amazing.  It seems as though that sort of “blue jean creative” comfort level can be a challenge to create in a room. Here I’ve collected a few of the newer offerings from Tsunami Glassworks, Anthropologie, and Thomas Paul that I just love! Have any rooms that have this look? Please add your links or images below!

Take a spin around designer Kathryn M. Ireland’s site and you’ll probably put her new book, Creating a Home, at the top of your wish list. Love the beautiful saturated color and casual bohemian charm.  Many of the photos in the book were taken at her home in Ojai which she just sold to Reese Witherspoon (including the cute kitchen below – that looks like a Reece room).  The all white mixed with just a couple of red pieces looks so cool and a really great showcase for all the pretty dishes and cups.  This is exactly my kitchen’s layout (sink and stove location) and I adore those open shelves.  Big inspiration from this!

interiors magazine

Have you checked out Interiors Magazine lately?  I rarely spy the actual book on the stands but the online version is quite spectacular.  The Oct/Nov issue features page after page of interesting design – most projects splashed with vibrant color.   The issue features a gorgeous residential project by Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, an apartment in Hong Kong by Miles Young, and a home in Portugal designed by Vera Cristo – all extensively photographed and documented.  Shown here are some images at random – to see them all check out the digital version of the magazine here>>

spinach
So I completely blew it this year with my Spring garden – I didn’t sow my seeds early enough and the weeds really just took over.  So about the time that it started to cool down this year, I thought maybe I’d have a second chance with a cool season crop.

About the beginning of September I went out to see if I could find some seeds – everyone was pretty much out except one local garden store in Madison (CT).  They were actually giving their overstock away so I plowed through a large pile looking for varieties of spinach, lettuce and radishes that had short germination and growing times.  I did pretty well, and even despite our early cold, and torrents of rain, the little veggies did pretty well as you can see.  I love these little macro shots – they’re colorful and also give great inspiration for color themes for other creative projects.  Above is spinach, below is winter lettuce, cilantro, winter kale, radish, another winter lettuce.  Below that is a Japanese Maple that looks like lava to me, white oak, and sarsaparilla against a white oak trunk.

These aren’t veggies, but I love the colors:

I must say, I’m always pretty much enamored with light/white interiors when I see them in photos – but I have real difficulty making them work with my lifestyle.  I have two dogs who run around our property collecting dirt, and two long haired cats who seem to be fur shedding specialists.  White couches are always a challenge as a result – and while a bright pink couch like the one above probably wouldn’t work either – it’s always fun to see these saturated colors worked into an apartment.

These shots are from the Shoot Factory in England – a company that brokers film and photo shoot locations in the UK.  This particular space features exposed brick and lots of ample light. I think it’s pretty interesting!
